Fishing Days in the Florida Keys

Hi there & Welcome to "the Fishing Blog"
We're going to be putting up some fishing news for the Keys & Tournament postings .

"Seriously, this is the best time for billfish along the reef and just offshore. Tailing conditions look very possible for sailfish this weekend with the forecast.

There have been numerous sails throughout the Florida Keys region along with good action from early kings and mackerel. Some day’s conditions are right in the mornings and on others, it has paid off to await the afternoon set for the best bite.

New Marathon fishing report

Take a ride on the flats areas and bridge channels around Marathon and you will see that tarpon fishing is still alive and well! During the day either offshore or backcountry fishing or both will be highlighted for spectacular fishing!!

Dolphin offshore have been plentiful. The hottest areas have been around 12 miles from the reef. This has been good for days and days with plenty of large school dolphin in the 5 to 9 pound range. There have been scattering of big fish as well. Wahoo have been running fairly well along the 300-foot range for those with fast trolled lures.   ..... more Marathon fishing report

New Marathon fishing Report

New Marathon fishing Report

4-2-08 from D. M. Navarro @ the World Class Angler in Marathon.

It's tarpon time!  Without a doubt, it's one of my favorite times of the year.  These monsters are tougher than most of the available action figures.  They will bust tackle more than any species that I know of.  (Now I know why I like them so much.  They're part of my retirement plan.)

Marlin, sailfish, big tunas, big dolphin and other larger fish are mostly offshore and weather conditions dictate the opportunity to go after them.  Tarpon are right here, literally in your back yard.  The area bridge channels will become loaded as well as many canals in the Keys.  ....... New Key West fishing report - Capt Dave Navarro

Permit have begun to show on the backcountry flats of the Keys. With warm weather this February and March, we should be in store for some outstanding Permit fishing. Today we found Bonefish and Tarpon as well as Permit. The water temps sky rocketed into the upper 70's with a South wind on hand. But as the wind diminished into flat calm, the fish became extremely spooky and scarce. .........  more Key West fishing reports  ......

New Marathon fishing report - Capt Dave Navarro

One snapper that has been hot throughout has been the mangrove. On the reef patches, in Hawk Channel, in the bridge passes and throughout the tall grass bottom areas of the bay, mangroves have been both numerous and hungry. Some very large fish, on average, have been taken pleasing anglers everywhere. ... more fishing report .....

Marathon fishing report from Adios Charters

Father and son, Tim and TJ Spino, ventured to the Keys from Milford MA for some holiday fun and included a day of fishing with ADIOS Charters out of 7 Mile Marina in Marathon.  Captains Josh Gilmartin and Nick Borraccino really put them on the action with amberjacks, sharks and these four large (and delicious) mutton snappers.   Shown L-R: Tim Spino, Capt. Nick, TJ Spino and Capt. Josh.

Key Largo fishing report - Capt George Clark - Rodeo Charters

by Captain George C. Clark - Rodeo Charters

Fishing has been up and down but we have been able to target a variety of species here lately with good success. Sail fishing is a pick right now but we are catching some nice Mahi while live bait fishing. Normally a summer time fish, Mahi venture thru keys waters year round and when they spy a lonely bait fish floating on the surface they don't hesitate to eat them straight away.

Tuna also enjoy live offerings and we have seen some nice black fins on the edge of the reef also. We have targeted tuna recently by trolling and have had great success along with the occasional Wahoo. King mackerel are biting pretty well in these same areas too, and some of the king fish have been over 30 pounds.
